Every child is different. A student does NOT necessarily need to have good grades to be gifted!
Signs of giftedness in teens may include:
An ability to learn and process complex information rapidly
Need for constant mental stimulation (this can present as argumentative behavior!)
Independently pursuing subjects they find interesting in surprising depth
Enthusiasm about unique interests and topics
Ability to comprehend material several grade levels above their peers- not necessarily in all subject areas
Surprising emotional depth, sensitivity, empathy, social and/or self awareness (gifted teens can be very intense, hard on themselves for making mistakes)
Quirky or mature sense of humor, quick wit
Creative, imaginative problem solving (not always positive- gifted students can sometimes be very creative in finding ways around rules)
Quickly absorbs new information either independently or with very little repetition
