The Strengthening Families of the Brazos Valley Program is now accepting registrations for the Family Financial Management Class Series to begin on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 6:15 p.m. at the Caldwell Elementary/Intermediate School Cafeteria. The classes will be held on Wednesday evenings for 8 weeks. This is a FREE series and dinner and childcare are provided at every class. Pre-registration is required. This six weeks the theme is Internet Safety. Keep reading for three tips on how to fact-check information.
1. Exercise "click restraint" - Before you repost, retweet, etc., wait 30 seconds and ask yourself, "Do I know this is real?" If the answer is no, don't share until you do more research.
2. Decode posts - Verify the account name. Look for grammar and spelling errors; they're a big red flag. Go straight to the source; don't rely on screenshots. Look for a link providing further explanations.
3. Don't make these mistakes - Read only a headline. Trust the site that comes up as the top search result. Get wowed by cool visuals. Fall for a trick URL. Not realize a post is an ad.
